Position Summary

Speedgrip is seeking a talented Design Engineer to develop innovative workholding solutions, including chucks, collets, mandrels, fixtures, and automation products. This position works closely with customers, sales, manufacturing, and other members of the engineering team to transform application requirements into reliable, manufacturable products. The ideal candidate combines mechanical design ability with practical manufacturing knowledge and enjoys solving complex machining and workholding challenges.

Key Responsibilities

·        Design custom and standard workholding products and assemblies.

·        Develop concepts based on customer parts, machine specifications, and application requirements.

·        Create accurate 3D models, assembly drawings, and manufacturing drawings.

·        Perform tolerance-stack analysis and establish appropriate fits and clearances.

·        Select materials, heat treatments, coatings, seals, and purchased components.

·        Review customer prints, CAD models, machine specifications, and application data.

·        Work with manufacturing personnel to improve manufacturability, quality, and cost.

·        Support quotation development by establishing concepts, material requirements, and estimated engineering content.

·        Participate in design reviews and assist with product testing and validation.

·        Troubleshoot existing products and recommend corrective actions or design improvements.

·        Maintain accurate drawings, bills of materials, revisions, and engineering records.

·        Support continuous improvement and new-product development initiatives.

Qualifications

·        Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, mechanical engineering technology, or a related field preferred.

·        Relevant machine-design experience may be considered in place of a degree.

·        Proficiency with 3D CAD and mechanical drafting.

·        Strong understanding of tolerances, GD&T, fits, materials, and manufacturing processes.

·        Experience with machining, workholding, tooling, hydraulics, or automation is highly desirable.

·        Ability to interpret detailed customer and manufacturing drawings.

·        Strong mechanical problem-solving and communication skills.

·        Ability to manage several projects and priorities simultaneously.

·        Willingness to occasionally visit customers or assist with field applications.
